(PRESS RELEASE) NEENAH, WI — As the COVID-19 crisis continues, Jewelers Mutual Group is continuing its efforts to help keep jewelry businesses safe and secure.
Effective immediately, its safety and security education that was once reserved for only policyholders is now available to everyone. The online learning platform known as JM University features a variety of structured courses for both jewelry business owners and managers, as well as sales staff.
“Jewelers are still at high risk even though their operations are temporarily shut down or changed,” said Larry Spicer, Jewelers Mutual vice president of Loss Prevention and Risk Management Services. “This is a great opportunity to brush up on best practices.”
Each of the 10 courses offered focuses on a different area. Two of the most popular are Selling with Security, which provides education on preventing theft and how to stay safe during a robbery, and Danger on the Road, which is tailored to traveling salespeople. There’s also a course on cybersecurity that is beneficial to anyone working from home or engaging in e-commerce.
More than 1,000 businesses use JM University as part of their annual training and new hire orientation. Managers can assign specific courses to staff and monitor their progress. Many of the courses have built-in quiz modules to reinforce the learning and provide a feedback loop if more attention is needed on a topic.
“Offering complimentary access to our resources is the right thing to do,” Spicer said. “For the past month we’ve focused on extending services to our policyholders, but we also remain dedicated to supporting the entire jewelry industry as we navigate this uncertain time. Together, we’ll get through this.”
