(PRESS RELEASE) The Florence Jewellery Week 2020 has been cancelled as a result of the latest provisions for extending the quarantine in order to combat COVID-19.

“Since we entered the Covid emergency we have resisted and continued to work on our project as we have done in recent months, every day imagining the set-up, the meetings, talking daily with the people involved and the press office, as though this confinement and this closure did not concern us, that things would be resolved, and that we would meet as planned at the end of May in Florence. Instead we have had to face up to reality and accept that there are now more important things to think about than our project”, declares Giò Carbone, artistic director of LAO and curator of the FJW.

It is now inevitable, and we must accept reality: the FJW 2020 cannot take place. The exhibitions, conferences, seminars, and meetings have all been cancelled. It is not a postponement: a project with these characteristics cannot simply be moved to another date. It is too difficult to put together again the group of artists, collections and curators who had been involved this work lasting almost two years.

The exhibition of the artists selected for the PREZIOSA YOUNG 2020 competition will be maintained: the staff is working to identify the gallery that will host the exhibition next September in Florence, while throughout the month of October the exhibition will be hosted in Padua, in the Oratory of San Rocco.

For curator Giò Carbone and all the staff of LAO who have been involved in the organization for the last two years, the satisfaction remains of having observed the esteem, credibility and respect demonstrated to them by all the people and institutions who joined the project with enthusiasm, and to whom their thanks go.

The response from the press has also been very positive as it followed the preparatory phase of the event with great interest, attention, and admiration, starting from the interview dedicated to the editor of the prestigious American magazine FORBES.

“This year marks the 15th anniversary of the PREZIOSA project, and also the 35th anniversary of the school: a big party was also planned on the large lawn of the Cascine park, but it is now just postponed until we return to normal and schools reopen. and to which students, teachers, friends will be invited. It will also be open to the public. “It will also be the moment to start working on a new project again”, concludes Giò Carbone.

Why This Jeweler Chose Wilkerson

Mark Lauer is the owner of Mark Michael Diamond Designs, the Minnesota-based jewelry gallery known for exceptional and uniquely designed diamond jewelry. Though he loved creating the beautiful jewelry his business was known for, retirement was an exciting alternative to the 60+ hours a week he’d spent building it up. He called Wilkerson to help with a retirement sale. “I did talk to two other companies, but I just didn’t feel they offered the same services that Wilkerson did,” he says. “I knew Wilkerson had the expertise to follow through and give me the service and results that I wanted. They’re the number one rock stars in this industry.”
