WHEN THE STUNNING Zoë Kravitz wears a piece of jewelry or a gown, she’s not one to go unnoticed. The daughter of two other beautiful people, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, she has been in numerous films, but her breakout series was Big Little Lies. On Oct. 30, she turned up at Kendall Jenner’s Halloween party with her love interest of the past two years, Channing Tatum. She went as Mia Farrow’s character in Rosemary’s Baby, and he went as the baby. She was holding a knife in her left hand, and there it was on her ring finger: a large, long cushion cut engagement ring, from what we can tell.

Reports flew all over the internet, but the ring guesstimates didn’t come in until later. But we all had the same feeling: that her longtime friend and reportedly favorite designer Jessica McCormack designed it. And then it happened: McCormack, who is one of my favorite London-based jewelry designers (due to her mining the past and referencing Georgian influences for inspiration), posted what seemed like a teaser and a very similar ring on her Instagram feed.

It read: “Happy Halloween. Why let the kids have all the fun…?? We’ve got treats for daysss (no tricks)”

Six days ago, she did a video of the same ring and another similar one and wrote, “Engagement rings that make my inner goth smile.”

None of these were cushion cuts, but the look and feel of the rings were the same as what could be told about the one Kravitz was wearing.

McCormack’s signature harks back to the Georgian diamond buttons that were turned into rings, which is why they are called button back rings. They have a closed back and a yellow gold shank. While the authentic Georgian styles are in silver in mine, cushion or rose cut diamonds, McCormack does them in black rhodium white gold over yellow gold shanks. She had revamped them to include all different cuts of diamonds, and if the one Kravitz is wearing is hers, specialists on Page Six and other publications speculate that it’s about 7 carats (which is definitely a huge stone).

Get a closer look at the ring in the Page Six video below:

Let us not forget Kravitz’s first engagement ring from The One I Love NYC, which was a Georgian rose cut diamond ring. The marriage to actor Karl Glusman didn’t last, but our collective memories of the ring, especially those of antique enthusiasts, will never forget her creating more popularity around rings of that time period.

We can continue to hypothesize about the ring until the couple who met while working on Kravitz’s directorial debut, Pussy Island, make their own statement — and even then it would still be conjecture until someone ‘fesses up about who designed the ring. But I am hoping it’s Jessica McCormack!

Why This Jeweler Chose Wilkerson

Mark Lauer is the owner of Mark Michael Diamond Designs, the Minnesota-based jewelry gallery known for exceptional and uniquely designed diamond jewelry. Though he loved creating the beautiful jewelry his business was known for, retirement was an exciting alternative to the 60+ hours a week he’d spent building it up. He called Wilkerson to help with a retirement sale. “I did talk to two other companies, but I just didn’t feel they offered the same services that Wilkerson did,” he says. “I knew Wilkerson had the expertise to follow through and give me the service and results that I wanted. They’re the number one rock stars in this industry.”
