TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET, an ambassador for Cartier, has been spotted in some iconic pieces from the brand, including a vintage diamond and ruby clip brooch at the 2020 Academy Awards and a panther necklace at the 2022 event, along with Juste un Clou bracelets and vintage tank watches. But the necklace he wore to the Wonka world premiere in London was perhaps the most distinctive. As Cartier’s official press release stated, “The white gold with rotating precious stones piece was created by the Cartier Jewelry ateliers with Timothée’s creative input.” While no other details were given, myriad gemstones seemed to echo the candy theme of the film and popped from the vibrant pink Tom Ford suit that Chalamet wore. While trying to get more scoop on the one-of-a-kind necklace, I stumbled onto a Vogue article that described the necklace as having  964 gemstones, including emeralds, rubellites, pink tourmalines and blue opals. Chalamet reportedly spent hours combing through archive Cartier imagery before traveling to Paris to meet with Marie-Laure Cérède, creative director of jewelry and watchmaking, at the atelier months before the premiere.

Chalamet has set the style for genderless dressing for some time. He has also worn a variety of jewelry styles, from classic to edgy, both in everyday life and to red carpet events. The Wonka necklace will become part of the Cartier Collection and will go on display at jewelry exhibitions around the globe.

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
